It's February -- where's the iPhone SDK?

Ever since Steve Jobs made this announcement last year about a native iPhone SDK, we've heard very little about exactly when the iPhone SDK will be released or what it will contain. No sneak peeks, no developer white papers along the lines of "Get ready for iPhone development!", nothing.

...Unless you're one of the chosen few partner companies, that is. Companies with Big Important Names and an army of really bad developers. Or perhaps companies who own the rights to Really Popular Brands, and also have an army of bad developers. These armies of bad developers might just barely eke out a couple of applications by the time the iPhone SDK actually ships, and then these will be held up to us regular developers as shining examples of what one can accomplish with the shiny new iPhone SDK (which we will then, of course, completely ignore).

Frankly, I can't wait until a couple months after the SDK is released, when the hype has had a chance to die down, the smoke clears, and the interesting applications produced by small passionate development teams start to emerge. Posted by todd at February 6, 2008 07:56 PM
