Cromwell in a Sweatsuit

wilkinson_family.jpg I'm thinking of joining the Grey Sweatsuit Revolution. Just think, I'd never need to worry about what to wear ever again!

The problem with contests...

...is that you might not win, and that's a bummer. A few months ago I scrambled to put together an entry for this year's Architecture for Humanity contest: designing a combination soccer clubhouse and meeting place for a poor community in South Africa.

Overall I think I made a pretty good showing. It's interesting to see that I had a lot of the same ideas as some of the finalists, though their focus was somewhat different. The main difference I see is in presentation: Many of the entrants are clearly using a particular style of architectural presentation that's hip these days, except for these folks, who used a more traditional Landscape Architecture approach.

Anyway, I didn't expect to win, so it's not too surprising that I didn't make it into the finals. There were something like 270 entrants, and many of those were teams of architects. Still, I was sheltering a little candle of hope, and that's been snuffed out. Oh well, I'll study the finalists (and other entrants when they're published) and learn from their innovations.

SF_Sunrise

In spite of pervasive malevolence in the world recently, the sun decided to rise this morning.
