HomeStarRunner: I don't get it

Somebody was ranting about HomeStarRunner today, so I decided to check it out. Frankly, I don't get it. The animation and characters are OK (not really as inspiring as some other character design I've seen), the writing is bland, and the jokes aren't funny. Is there some kind of HomeStar Manual I'm supposed to read that will suddenly explain all the humor?
